Nick Lowery: Ultimate Teams - Five A's

Former NFL All-Pro Nick Lowery explores his personal story of turning adversity into victory.
Lowery’s pro football career started with a long string of trades before he kicked into high gear to
become the NFL’s record holder for the most field goals of all time. A Kansas City Chiefs Hall of
Famer, philanthropist, poet, and Harvard graduate, Lowery will share several of his secrets to success,
including:
  • Attitude - an attitude of self-determination pervades the individual “kicker” and the team that puts him in position to put it through the uprights, which represent the big “goal” and higher purpose that all win from.
  • Angels - the “kick-ass” leader is always looking for those who mentor and bring out his/her best.
  • Accountable - being able to measure your success and write down your goals ensures reality checks and constant improvement.
  • Art - the answers are already inside us. The Art is already in the marble. It’s our job to get out of the way!
  • Alive - find meaning through Passion and Focus. You’ll learn how the winless San Carlos Apache tribe football team never lost another game after applying this lesson.

Fred Myers began his ag journalism career 54 years ago when he graduated from Purdue with a degree in agriculture but without any journalism training or experience.

Since then, however, he has been involved with almost every aspect of ag journalism including editorial staff positions on a farm magazine, a corporate agribusiness magazine and the communication arm of an agricultural research center. He has had an equally intense and tandem career as a freelance writer and photographer serving a wide range of national clients.

Fred's expertise ranges from magazines, newsletters, public relations and technical editing to photography, audio visual production and book publishing. He has also been a teacher, a manager and a consultant.

He has traveled in 73 percent of all the counties in the U.S. plus 18 countries and went around the world in an achievement included in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Fred strives for excellence and has written much about professional improvement in ag journalism. In fact, within the last few weeks he has published a book of all his writings on that subject. The book is available here during the AMS.

Those who have known him best during his 49 years as an AAEA member, recognize his uncanny ability to visualize the future.

About Steve Hall

After spending many years declining to join his dad at Boelte-Hall, Steve finally agreed to a temporary position there when one of his fellow band members took time off for surgery on his vocal cords. He learned to sweep the floor and how to imprint real estate brochures with franchise addresses on a Heidelberg windmill. Much to Steve's dismay, he's still working at Boelte-Hall over 30 years later. Most of his efforts involve constantly changing what the company does.

Steve was among the founders of the Covalent User's Group and served as its president for over 10 years. He also served as president of his regional PIA group.

Although he was inducted into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame in 2007, he will admit that his high school drum ensemble was defeated on The Original Ted Mack Amateur Hour by a woman who could bend over backwards and pick up a handkerchief with her teeth.

Miraculously, he is married to an award-winning television news reporter. Together they have traveled much of the world by bicycle, and also jointly lead an annual medical mission trip to serve Haitian sugar cane cutters and their families in the Dominican Republic. Steve and his wife live in Leawood, Kansas with their dog, Angel.
